Experiance by Karthikeyaraja - Never trust M&M for your new vehicle

Date : 21 March 2010
Complaint Sent to

Dear Sir/Madam

I have purchased Xylo E8+ from MPL automobile Agency (P) Ltd, Chennai.
The vehile was delivered to me on Friday (19/3/2008) evening. I am fully satisfied with the dealer with their service.

After delivery I have noticed that

1. the delivered vehicle had run around 370KM while delivery.
2. The right side back door gasket torned out.
3. The inter cooler fins on the engine were damaged.
4. Back door manual lock is not working.
5. Back door child lock is not working.
6. The back pumper has finger prints impressed in wet paint.
7. Scratches in the back pumper.
8. No plastic wrappers in front and back captain seats and some of the handles.
9. We need to press the fuel lid cover while pressing the electric switch provided in driver seat to open fuel lid. It is not pop out while I press lid open switch. This is the case in manual open switch also.
10. Dry mud in driver seat carpet. This is a summer, so, no reason for dry mud in a new car.
11. Dry mud in under chassis in all four wheels.
12. Scratches and muds in door plastic flashings provided at the bottom.

All these are the defects I found in my visual test in next day light.

Because of my belief on your quality, I did not checked the vehicle before delivery. But Now I feel that I could have checked the vehicle even though it is produced by a good manufacturer and its appointed dealer.

Please advice me that what to do now. The showroom persons told me that the KMs run was most common in all Mahendra vehicles. Is it common to all your vehicles?

Will you do test drives in factory on all vehicles or Will you deliver test droved vehicle to customers?

Are you admitting your dealers to deliver their used cars to customers as a new one?

This is my first buying experience in India from a India's number one diesel vehicle manufacturer. I had proud of buying a quality vehicle from a Good manufacturer. But after seeing the vehicle the impression I got is, just I bought a second hand car as a new car.

I am waiting for your early reply.

Best regards

MPL people

Prior to this discussion, Mr Chithamparam from Mahindra inspected the vehicle. He accepted that the claims are true. He reported that to Mr.Venkatesh, sales manager Mahindra. I need a written statement from Chithamparam and he told that he is not authorized to do so.

During the discussion, My question to Mahindra people was What is Mahindra’s delivery policy? Are these problems found in my new vehicle can be allowed by? The Mahindra people verbally accept that it is not mahindra’s quality. But they were not ready to tell the dealer to issue a really new vehicle. But also they refused to give this in writing. They insist me to send the vehicle to service center to rectify the problem. But I am in the stand of issue me a new vehicle.

Dear Sir,

During the meeting at my office you are accepted the issues and promising me to make my car as a New one. I am very much thankful for that.

Please note that my car's PDI was done on end of December 2009. my vehicle delivery is on 19/03/2010. The dealer told me that they will finish its PDI once they received the vehicle.

The dealer letter states that the vehicle was taken to showroom for display from their stack yard. In these 12 weeks of time, they took around 6 times (every alternate weeks) for displaying this vehicle to showroom. Do you think is it an acceptable one? Is that every alternate week they took the vehicle from stack yard to showroom? Then why they didn't show me the vehicle at the time of booking? Why they didn't show me the vehicle before registration?

All these with a repaint in the back bumper and a physical damage on right back door body beading tells me that the vehicle was used very often, well before delivered to me. Is it a general practice in all your new vehicles? Will the vehicle displayed on the showroom can get damaged in its body beading by a hard pinch?

When you people try to convince me for accepting that vehicle, I feel I am a mad and cheated by you all.

Your company has very good name in the market. I came to your product for your well known Quality and Commitment of service. I know how difficult to get a good name in the market.I believe that your company will solve my problem.

Please help me to get a really new vehicle. Please ensure a proper delivery of new vehicles to your customers in future

Please let me know your President and Chairman mail address to address this to them.

Mr.Kumar, Sales manager, Mahindra called me over phone and wanted to talk with me about the issues. I met him in MPL showroom where Mr.Bala of MPL was there. They begged me that, The issue is very serious and the people involved may lose their jobs. They begged me for humanitarian cause I should accept that vehicle as it is and they will come with a good compensation of 10 years of free warranty by Mahindra and MPL. So, I accepted and told them to prepare the documents.

Dear Mr. Venkatesh,

I have seen your mail sent to my gmail address.
Last week, I met with Mr.Kumar of Mahindra and Mr.Bala of MPL and discussed the issues. Mr.Kumar told me that you were transferred to Kochi. I wish you good prospects in your new endure. Please always ensure your customers a new car delivery as a really new one.

Mr.Kumar and Mr.Bala explained me the difficulties of issue a new vehicle to me. Even though I am not convinced with them, finally I decided to go with them. I hope Today they will tell me their final settlements for closing this issue.

Best wishes

Mr.Kumar and Mr.Bala called me over phone and told me that they can only offer Rs10000/- each as a total of Rs20000/- worth service from MPL service center. I told them that to give that in written. But they refused to give that.

Dear Sir,

I am very glad of using a best product from you the Xylo. But the dealer delivered an used Xylo instead of a new one. So, Please take necessary action to deliver me a really new Xylo at the earliest.

I am telling that the Xylo is an used one because of

1. 370 KMs run by the dealer.
2. Repaint in the back bumper. Your service person Mr.Chithamparam assured me that the wet paint finger prints will not come with factory outlet. so it is repainted by the dealer.
3. Hard punch peeled the body beading on right side back door.
4. On the same side, the inner plastic holding between middle seat and back seat had a hard impression of metal pierce.
5. All four captain seats are not covered by the polythene wrappers.
6. In four handles, Only one handle was wrapped well with polythene sheet and rest three no wrappers.
7. When I am running at a speed of 80KM/Hr, there is an air diapering sound coming at the left side of the vehicle. The same side back bumper was repainted by the dealer.
8. I don't know how the driver ran the car for these 370 KMs. It will affect the engine performance in the future.

If Mahindra accept that these are usual in their new vehicles then I will accept the vehicle delivered to me, because I had chosen your company for buying new vehicle. Otherwise Please take back mine and issue me a new vehicle.

I didn't get a meaning full answer for "Pre Delivery Inspection" done on my vehicle was on end of December 2009. But my vehicle delivery date was 19th March 2010. Your people and the dealer told me that it is meant for dealer. If this is meant for dealer then why the receipt handed over to me? Why it is placed in the service manual for user?

Your area sales manager Mr. Venketesh came and talks with me. He is trying to convince me to accept that vehicle. I don't know why he is not insisting the dealer to deliver a right vehicle to me.  Your people Mr.Venkatesh and Mr.Chithamparam fear to tell in front of the dealer that the dealer did mistake. I don't know why your officials are so fearful against a dealer. Off course a dealer should fear of you people and on that fear he should serve well. But in your company, it is in reverse. Dealer is delivering a faulty vehicle and your people are not ready to tell him to deliver a right one. Why? you didn't believe in your name and quality. Are you really need a fraudulent dealer like this to spoil your hard earned name. Still you like that the people like me have to be cheated by this dealer by your name? Will you allow this type business on your name?

The dealer is challenging me that I cannot success against him with Mahindra. I don’t know why? Are you expect that he will deliver faulty vehicle and we will give him our hard earned money just like that?

I sent mails and mails to your persons listed below but there is no reply from your persons. I requested your persons to give me your chairman and president mail addresses to address this issue. But I hope they ignored.

Last week I met Mr.Kumar of mahindra and the dealer, They told me that they will solve the issues quickly. But Finally when I contacted the dealer for many times, at last I got the answer of "THEY CANNOT HELP ME ANYMORE". It is really funny that after I paid the full amount of around 0.1Crore, they failed to deliver me a right vehicle, and they say me they cannot help me. All these words from the dealer show me that how efficient your people are with the dealer and your quality service.

So, Please take necessary actions to ensure your Product quality and Service quality.

I am expecting your early action.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Now I had talk with Mr.Kumar and the dealer, they suggest me to keep the vehicle and instead of that the Dealer will offer a service of Rs10000/- worth and mahendra will offer a 1000KM of extended warranty.

Are you think that your customer who wants to ride a new car will get an used car for this offer? Are they come for a company like you for an used one? I dont know what your sales people and the dealer are thinking about their customers.

I told Mr.Kumar that to send this offer though you. If you are telling me that what I had is your new vehicle quality, then I will close this issue because I had chosen your company for my first new car in India. So, I have to bear the cost.

Please reply me at the earliest. i was already frustrated with the delay by your people.

I want to address my problem to your President and Chairman. Can you Please forward to them?

Dear Mr.Venkatesh,

While talking with them, they told me that there are many more problems like job losses will be there on this issue. So, for a shake of humanity I told them to settle the issue at their best and they told me to avail service of my demand by the dealer and around 10 year’s warranty by Mahindra by Mr.Kumar. But latter, they changed to the below said compensation.

The dealer told me to avail me a service worth of 10000/- and 370KM extended warranty. Mr.Kumar of Mahindra told me that they extend the warranty for 1000KM.

The settlements were not satisfying me. I don’t know what happened in the middle. But the dealer told me that I did not put any demand to settle down.
So, I put my demand as issue me a new vehicle instead of the old one or pay
4 lakhs to keep the vehicle as it is.

If I opt for a second hand one then I could go for Ford Enduever for this amount. I hate a second hand vehicle that’s why I come for new vehicle to Mahindra but Mahindra cheated me. I think commercial owners are the one should come to Mahindra not for personnel vehicle owners.

Saturday, Mr.Kumar with Mr.Chithamparam and MPL people met me. They came to me without any solution. They asked me what my solution is.  MY SOLUTION IS TO DELIVER ME A REALLY NEW VEHICLE NOT DAMAGED AND REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. I hope it is my right to ask you for right delivery because I paid you. MPL is your authorized dealer so, you cannot tell me that you are not responsible for fraudulent delivery by your dealer MPL.

I was repeatedly saying that I was cheated by the dealer by delivering a vehicle which was used by 370 KM's, damaged and repaired. I clearly showed the repainted bumper and damaged body beading and inner plastic holdings to your persons Mr.Venkatesh, Mr.Chithamparam and Mr.Kumar. Your people were not ready to insist the dealer to issue a right vehicle to me. They were telling me that they delivered vehicles with around 1000KM's ran before delivery. So this 370Km with repaired body is a small issue for them.

If Mahindra is accepting that the 370 KM's and the repainted bumper damaged body beadings and other my claims are Mahindra’s fault/usual thing, then I am ready to send the vehicle to service station for replacing these parts.

Finally They offered me a service worth of 20000/- for this faulty delivery. I told them that I am ready to pay that 20000/- right now and issue me a really new vehicle. I will bear that cost for my wrong selection of a motor company for my new vehicle.

Finally I got a hurting word from your people that They cannot help me any more against MPL. Finally I understand that Mahindra’s dealers can cheat Mahindra’s customers as they want. Mahindra will not help us.

I don't know why your people are not ready to feel a customer's feeling of buying a new vehicle. Sorry for saying this, May be it is a culture of Mahindra developed since a long time.

Please let me know the status of my complaint after Saturday meet.

Dear Sir,

I am a proud owner of your prideful product Xylo. This is my first car in India.

When I searching for a good vehicle with a price range of 10 lakhs with seating capacity of minimum 6, I found that your product is a best option in the market. I am very happy to buy this.

But the tragedy came to me with the dealer "MPL automobiles Chennai". I booked the vehicle on March 2010, I request immediate delivery of Red Xylo.
They told me that they have red color but the model was 2009 and a new one will take three months time. I said okay and got delivery on 19th March evening after 6.00PM.

But When I took delivery the vehicle ran about 370Kms. So, I checked the vehicle thoroughly on next day sunlight. I found the following,

1. the delivered vehicle had run around 370KM while delivery. The dealer told that vehicle was used for display and alternative weeks they change vehicles in the showroom. So, within 10 weeks after PDI, 5 times they used this vehicle for show room purposes. But they never showed me this vehicle from my booking to delivery in the span of almost two weeks. They told me that the vehicle was stacked in the stockyard and never used till the date of receipt from factory. The stockyard located at 20Km from showroom. so, they cannot show me the vehicle before registration. I accepted that on believe of Mahindra's quality of service and never see the vehicle until delivery.
2. PDI ( pre delivery inspection) on this vehicle was done on December 2009.
The dealer is telling that they used to do PDI once they got the vehicles from factory. I don't know is it true or not. Your sales persons acknowledged that. My doubt is then why the receipt was handed over to me.
3. The back bumper was repainted. I found that by noticing a full hand finger prints impressed in wet paint and dried.
4. The right door side body beading was damaged. Door beading is good but the hard body beading was damaged.
5. The inner plastic console between middle seat and back seat was tampered by some hard metal pierce.
6. The inter cooler fins on the engine were damaged. ( Mr Chithambaram of Mahindra told me that the fins are very soft can be damaged by touching the fins. So, I don't know how many of people touched the fins and what else damaged inside after PDI.) 7. Back door manual lock is not working.( Mr Chithambaram of Mahindra told me that it is only a provision for future models. ) 8. Back door child lock is not working. ( Mr Chithambaram of Mahindra told me that it is only a provision for future models. ) 10. Scratches in the back bumper.
11. No plastic wrappers in front and back captain seats and some of the handles.
12. We need to press the fuel lid cover while pressing the electric switch provided in driver seat to open fuel lid. It is not pop out while I press lid open switch. This is the case in manual open switch also. ( Mr.
Chithambaram told me that, the spring not found in the lid and it will be rectified in service center) 13. Dry mud in driver seat carpet. This is a summer in chennai, so, no reason for dry mud in a new car.
14. Dry mud in under chassis in all four wheels.
15. Scratches and mud in door plastic flashings provided at the bottom.

All these reveal that the dealer un-officially used the vehicle from last of December and delivered it as a new vehicle to me.

I registered a complaint on your customer care on 21st March 2010 after a talk with dealer. My complaint number is JE18/0015.

I explained all these things to your sales engineers; They accepted that this is not the Mahindra’s quality of delivery. But they refused to insist the dealer to deliver a right vehicle and not advised me to keep the vehicle idle until this complaint was closed. Now they are telling me that I used the vehicle. So, they told they cannot help me.

Finally after a long struggle with your persons they told me that Mahindra will offer a service worth of 20000/- for keeping that used vehicle. I refused to accept that and told them that I am ready to pay that 20000/- to Mahindra and issue me a really new vehicle.

I didn't think that the prideful manufacturer of Indian defense system, try to cheat me.

Herewith I attached the full mailing history.

Please take necessary action and advice me what to do.

  8. Back door manual lock is not working.( Mr Chithambaram of Mahindra told me that it is only a provision for future models. )
  9. Back door child lock is not working. ( Mr Chithambaram of Mahindra told me that it is only a provision for future models. )
  10. Scratches in the back pumper.
  11. No plastic wrappers in front and back captain seats and some of the handles.
  12. We need to press the fuel lid cover while pressing the electric switch provided in driver seat to open fuel lid. It is not pop out while I press lid open switch. This is the case in manual open switch also. (Mr.Chithambaram told me that, the spring not found in the lid and it will be rectified in service center)

I phoned to customer care about the progress. The customer care person told me that Mr.Ramachandran made talks with me. I enquired him what I told to Mr.Ramachandran. He told me that it was not known to them.

But, Mr.Ramachandran did not make any calls to me and did not meet me. This is a proof that M&M is cheating its customers.

  2. PDI (pre delivery inspection) on this vehicle was done on December 2009.
  3. The dealer is telling that they used to do PDI once they got the vehicles from factory. I don't know is it true or not? Your sales persons acknowledged that. My doubt is then why the receipt was handed over to me.
  4. The back bumper was repainted. I found that by noticing a full hand finger prints impressed in wet paint and dried.
  5. The right door side body beading was damaged. Door beading is good but the hard body beading was damaged.
  6. The inner plastic console between middle seat and back seat was tampered by some hard metal pierce.
  7. The intercooler fins on the engine were damaged. ( Mr Chithambaram of Mahindra told me that the fins are very soft can be damaged by touching the fins. So, I don't know how many of people touched the fins and what else damaged inside after PDI.)

Dear All,

I never accept your solution of Rs 20000/- service for an used vehicle.

I just leave this to all your hearts and the Great GOD. Actually I feel the killing incident is the great silence from Mahindra.

If you did not realize that you sold an used vehicle to me, then I will just thought that I donated the balance amount of around 2 lakhs rupees ( deducted price for the used car )  to Mahindra and MPL.

You both can share this amount on my name. May be, the Mahindra can use the major share of this Donated amount to show their profits and achievements in the Media.

Soon You all will see this cheating history in a blogspace.

best wishes

After this I posted these issues in Xylo face book wall. And later I started posting on all Mahindra face book walls. After those postings I got some response from M&M people. They are follows

Dear Sir,

With reference to your facebook message. I am sending this mail to you.

In my mails I clearly told that I was keeping my vehicle Idle to allow M&M to solve the problem. But when time goes, I lost the trust on M&M and sent a reminder mail stating that I couldnot keep the vehicle idle so, Reply me to use the vehicle or not and If you are not responding to this reminder, I will start using the vehicle. I didn't get any reply, so I used the vehicle.  But later M&M customer care told me that they cannot solve the issue because I used the vehicle.

If M&M is very keen on this usage then they should tell the customer to keep the vehicle idle till the problem was solved. Why they did not told this?

What Can I do? I decided that just I can inform the cheat to my fellow indians. That is what I am doing in the face book. I will do that until I have this vehicle in my life.

Note :
The first attachment is attached with the mail sent to balwani.roma@mahindra.com.
The second attachment has the letter from dealer for their use of 370 Kms and My reminder for use of the vehicle.
The third attachment has my reply after final conversation with Mr.Kumar/Mahidra and the dealer MPL.

Dear Sir,

In coordination with the first mail I sent to you in the morning, I am sending this as additional info about this problem.

This is the first actions taken by your people. I appreciate the efforts taken by your sales people but I think they don’t have power to insist the dealer to ensure proper delivery.

I thanks to Mr.Venkatesh, Mr.Kumar, Mr.Chithamparam of Mahindra. They accepted that it is not Mahindra’s quality of delivery but could not insist the dealer to deliver a right vehicle.

Today afternoon Mr.Kumar of Mahindra phoned to me for talking about the solution. But I refused to talk with him because we already made too many talks but ends with no solution.

My solution to this issue is

Mahindra has to accept that this is their quality of delivery (or) Issue me a really a new vehicle.

I hope you will solve my problem. I believe that nothing wrong (or) immoral in my stand.

With thanks
P.karthikeyaraja
